About Mel Hornby
Founder & Director
Mel Hornby, BSc (Hons) MNIMH, mANP, mGNC, is a pioneering force in herbal education, dedicated to making plant-based knowledge accessible and engaging for future generations. After earning her degree in Herbal Medicine in 2007, she combined her clinical expertise with a passion for teaching, founding the Junior Herbalist Club (JHC) in 2014. Inspired by her young son's fascination with plants, she created a dynamic, hands-on learning program that integrates science, history, and practical herbalism. Under her leadership, JHC has expanded from monthly classes to school-based programs, offering a structured curriculum that aligns with national education standards. Her innovative approach ensures children develop lifelong herbal knowledge, fostering curiosity, sustainability, and respect for nature. In 2021, Mel’s dedication was recognized with the Christopher Hedley Memorial Award for Significant Contribution to Herbal Medicine. She continues to shape the future of herbal education, developing new curricula and inspiring both children and professionals worldwide.
